As we approach the 2016 Olympics, let’s look back at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Team USA won the gold medal with a record of 8-0 and a win over Spain the Gold Medal Game. Spain finished with the silver medal and a 5-3 overall record. Russia finished with the bronze medal and a 6-2 record. Team USA will be looking to repeat as the champion and Spain will be looking for revenge in Rio.


Spain – Post to Step Up

Marc Gasol moves out from the post to set a Knicks (Step-Up) ball screen. The ballhandler can dribble into the empty space towards the baseline.

Spain – BLOB Point Flip Dive

The point guard runs around 4 and screens for him. Once 4 has the ball, 5 dives into the lane for a post pass.

USA – Zone Empty Rub

The post player starts in the high post but empties out as the point guard drives in setting a rub action type screen.

USA – Zone Wing Drive

Kevin loves screens the edge of the zone allowing the ballhandler to drive in. X3 has to choose whether to guard the ball or the corner shot.

Wes Kosel is an assistant coach for men’s basketball under Head Coach Tom Billeter at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Kosel joined the staff at Augustana after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Colorado College and before that spent time at Texas Lutheran University and Haskell Indian Nations University. Kosel has an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas and a Master’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Houston. He has coached summer AAU programs, volunteered with elementary and middle school basketball teams, and has worked basketball camps for various programs including the Houston Rockets, USA Basketball, University of Colorado, University of New Mexico, Air Force, University of Houston, Texas State, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
