NBA All-Star 2020 in Chicago was one for the ages, with the skills competition, three-point competition, dunk contest, and even the All-Star Game all coming down to the final seconds. Chicago’s frigid temperatures did not keep the best basketball players away from the United Center and didn’t keep aspiring and passionate engineers away from FastModel Sports All-Star Hackathon.
We opened up our Stats, Plays, Playbooks and Video APIs for 24 hours and invited all genres of engineers on a first come first serve basis, ultimately reaching capacity and building up a waitlist of 30 plus people. With contestants ranging from 13 years old to seasoned engineers, we experienced a nurturing and collaborative environment without losing the competitive spirit of a hackathon.
Incredible ideas and solutions ranging from live game event entry to player load management analysis were put together within the quick deadline, showing that basketball’s incredible amount of raw data still can be used to aid teams in a variety of ways. We would like to thank all the wonderful participants, volunteers and sponsors for putting forward their best efforts to make this event a success. Special shoutout to Expedia’s BEEP group, TalentSolvers and the Chicago Bulls for their invaluable support and donations. Thanks to everyone for the shares, likes and spreading the word.
See you at the next one!
