Both Team USA basketball squads have the talent take home Olympic gold, again. Here are offensive sets to watch for at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games.
Team USA has become accustomed to winning gold medals at the Olympics, no matter if it’s the women’s or men’s competition. The numbers don’t lie: the men have won gold in 15 of 18 tournaments, including the last three in a row; the women have taken home the gold in eight of 10 tournaments, having captured the last six in a row.
However, the rest of the basketball world has been slowly catching up.
Look no further than the exhibition tour for both American squads, which have been anything but smooth. The men dropped a pair of games to Australia and Nigeria back-to-back, while the women also fell short to Australia.
Is this a sign of what’s to come? Will the American dominance end at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games? Or will the United States teams get their acts together when the games count and medals are on the line?
A handful of other nations will think this is their window to make a run at gold and send the Red, White and Blue ballers home empty handed.
One thing is for sure: both U.S. rosters have plenty of talent to work with. It will be up to head coaches Gregg Popovich and Dawn Staley and their staffs to execute the game plan on offense and defense.
